Purpose
Concept
Client: I created the game itself so there is no client
Project name: Extreme Fighting Royale (E.F.R)
Brief Description: This game story will be developed from my own creation and my own unique characters and game play. The game itself is a fighting game and therefore could bring popularity into the games industry.
The Stories purpose is to allow the player to be affected by the story in the game as it is a fighting game the story is not always necessary but it helps the player get a idea of why the character is in the game and the fact that they are not the just there for the game itself with no story to them or any back-story at all.
Target Audience
The game is targeted at 15-25 year olds as they are in the correct age that the gamers age rating and the age it would appeal to as it is unisex and can be played by both male and female gamers. This is a unique game an original idea and therefore no franchising is made and the characters and their story are not franchised in anyway making the copyright laws remain intact.
Components
Theme
Components are shown in this game by the scene been in an average city were criminal records and fighting is to be expected. The setting is described as a normal city but at night time becomes into a criminal war festival where crime is spread out and the police is not enough needed to help keep the city calm. The city has a few flats, a lot of businesses and a bank with a lot of rows of houses within the city to accommodate the citizens
Setting
The setting is a modern city which has been overrun by criminals and fighting gangs however the police are still there attempting to keep the city at peace which is why the city remains calm in the daytime but in the night time can be very dangerous as the crimes are usually appearing at that time. The name of the city is called Desert typhoon it has a few flats around the city with land marks and parks for where the crime is usually taken place at. There are many houses and businesses which are either taken over or abandoned by the criminal activities.
Context
Context is the accident with john in the city however the main context for E.F.R is the criminal status in the city and why is it been provoked to such high levels of criminal records. Back-story: Just in the outskirts of the city of Desert typhoon John was on his usual training runs when suddenly he was ran over by a maniacal driver due to the nighttimes of the city where criminal records have been increasing day by day. The city is divided into sections of wasteland and banged up buildings to the modern flats and average line of businesses and houses.
Backstory
Extreme Fighting Royale (E.F.R)
The City of Desert Typhoon was a nice and calm city however a few years ago criminal activity has sky rocketed and now the city is in chaos. The police have had some success with the criminal takedowns however the crime still appears and continuously threatens the city with wars and terror. The crimes are usually taken out at night time now due to the police enforcing and been a lot more aware of the daytime crime.
Sadly there is more to the crimes than there was once thought as one criminal business goes down another appears and the sudden change in the power plant nearby has made the city go into a panic leaving the criminal organisations with a new target to plan of taking over while the fighting gangs are attempting to become stronger in order to save themselves.
Steve Philip Johnson is a normal average street fighter who is working a job as a street fighter and a police officer in order to help pay for his best friend John Mark Scarlett who had been ran over by a car due to the crimes at night time.
Due to the sudden accident that has happened to John Steve has no choice but to do two different jobs to help pay for the hospital bills and for the support of john’s family as he fights in tournaments and help the police as much as he can on his journey through desert typhoon and the crime and tournaments he must compete in.
Premise
"fightings a tough job specially when you got 2 jobs to deal with"
Steve Philip Johnson is a average fighter who must take on the role of a street fighter for tournaments and a police officer to help pay for his best friends hospital bills and the to help support their family as well as his own. Steve must train hard and work hard in order to help him pay the bills for his friend and find out the mystery of who ran john over and why and what will be the solution to Steve’s confusion. While he fights the crime he will compete in the fighting tournaments to help show reputation s a street fighter and to earn extra money for the bills of the hospital.
Storyline
You begin with Steve talking to john after the accident while he lays unconscious telling him that he will find out who did this to him and why they did and then suddenly the screen goes fuzzy and you hear a laugh saying it was me who did it me!!! Then Steve wakes up from his dream in shock saying the same dream again it has to be a sign. Steve gets out of bed and then you control him with the narrator helping with the tutorial.
The narrator helps Steve know his moves in tutorials and helps the player know when tournament times and specific events are taken place within the game. Steve then goes to the hospital to find out how much the payment of the bills would be for john and then goes to his first job been the street fighter in order to improve his skills. (this is also part of the tutorial) after that he is asked to return to his home in order to rest so that he can rest for his second job as a police officer and after the first couple of days in the game of doing this (the tutorial is the first day) Steve retrieves enough money for Johns payment bills and after 1 more day after the payment for John’s hospital bills Steve picks him up and walks with him back to Johns home and Johns wife is very great full for the support that you have given and john decides to help you with your jobs and training from then on.
The Narrator now says to the player that the money you receive can be used to buy items such as clothes and decorations form the shops for the house or for the characters or it can be used for health packs, weapons for police to use in the crime missions (no guns are in the game but riot shields and other weapons such as baseball bats and batons are) and more costly training to help improve the fighting for the team are provided. Some moves can only be learned during training with mentors however the mentors cost is not free and they are usually busy so it is not easy to learn the special moves. (special moves can be used by any character as long as it is learned)
While as a police officer Steve now gets the right after working for 5 days with them to allow a friend or allies to help with criminal activity and also for them to be legally allowed to arrest criminals so that Steve can save civilians. The story consists of many businesses that will pay money while Steve and john are together if they help with the problems the business is having such as crime, threats or just some extra work for a day in order to get the business out of bankruptcy. While the tournaments for the street fighter is in place and John is able to help you. The player receives the ability to train in tag battles and compete in tag tournaments.
The tournaments are set out like a branched tree and allow you to quit at any time of the tournament and receive the money from that rank however it is wise to fight until you run out of health and stamina as you receive money for fighting till you drop and the payments for the healing of yourself and teammates are free since you showed reputation by fighting and not giving up.
After day 8 in story you are challenged by Phil Richardson a martial artist who hears about the reputation and decides to fight you in the tournament. The story here is linear however the speeches Phil says are different depending if you win or lose but he decides to join the team after realising the potential that Steve and john have at winning the professional fighting championships.
With Phil in the party Phil decides after 2 days training with Steve and John and helping with the jobs that Steve and John are ready for the Professional fighting championships also known as Intense Fighting Royale. He tells Steve and John that it happens in different countries and that the fights are very challenging however it is much more worth while as they can meet new fighters and also challenge their reputation world wide so they both agree to participate but Steve declines until the crime has been sorted out in Desert Typhoon and John agrees with Steve as the crime is not fully under control and could lead to disaster and could lead to issues with the Intense Fighting Royale so they rest for the day.
The following day Steve looks at the TV in his room and finds out some news that a criminal organisation has attempted to take over a nuclear power plant overnight and has succeeded with their mission so Steve immediately calls John and Phil and decides to go to the police and get geared up for occupying and saving any scientists that remain in the power plant while arresting and taking down the criminals.
They meet together in the Police station and Phil asks if it is alright for him to help after his past time with the police he had issues with but Steve and John say if you want to show the police you’re a nice guy then this is the time and we can come back after this and have a good rest and train. Phil accepts the teaming and the three of them go to the power plant in Desert Typhoon while helping the citizens on the way that have been harmed by the criminals. Half way to the power plant a strange green flare appears and shoots upwards out of the power plant Steve john and Phil are confused by the green flare and rush to the Power plant and notice that some of the people become infected by the radiation and start attacking other civilians so Steve Phil and John have no choice but to arrest the citizens that are infected and to take them to the research to find a cure for the infection. (the police move the arrested for Steve Phil and John so that way they can continue with the occupation of the power plant)
Once in the power plant Steve John and Phil split up to help take down the criminals. after beating their way through the criminals Steve speaks to a scientist telling him that the plant will self destruct in 15 minutes so they have to get their job done and then get out of the plant in time while the scientists will do their best to nullify the effect of the explosion as much as possible from outside the nuclear plant.
Meeting together again Steve Phil and John have found the boss controlling the city of criminals and challenges him to a fight to end the criminal organisation and hopefully lessen the crime so that they can enter the Intense fighting royale or Extreme fighting royale as it is sometimes named also due to its publicity. After defeating the boss of the crime organisation you must leave as soon as possible before the power plant explodes after switching on the cool down switch to prevent disater.

When they arrive in Spain after the long flight they meet a karate fighter outside the hotel named Angela and Angela asks if they are here for the fight in the tournament and they reply yes and she replies that she will be there also and will wait for them at the finish hoping for a good match. While it takes 2 days in game time for the tournament to start Steve John and Phil train whilst they are in Spain and decide to show good deeds by helping the police and go to training grounds rather than street tournaments as they are not anywhere else than Desert Typhoon. While training in other countries Steve and the team can learn more special moves from mentors in different countries for the prices they cost however some moves can only be learned in that specific country(when the mentors teach the special moves to the new characters the character recives choices to either help the police take down the bandits or to not help the police which can both give different choices such as helping will give you a bit of money and reputation whilst not doing the help will give you more time to train).
After 2 days pass you enter the Tournament and beat Angela (if you fail to beat Angela or win the tournament the tournament resets itself) She says that you have good fighting styles and asks for your names after the three reply she says nice to meet you and that I need a stronger challenge than here so she joins your team for police and training.
She gives more detail in the tournaments and that the next tournament is in Korea so after 4 more days of training at Spain Steve Angela Phil and John travel to Korea and meet Zany here who cant wait for their battle (the same story as what Steve Phil and John do in Korea is similar to when they were waiting for the tournament in Spain is the same in Korea training and meeting them in the tournament while looking for mentors to learn special moves) after beating Zany he joins your team and then tells you that the next fight is in Britain so now you travel to Britain in 4 days and then you meet Max who cant wait for the fight so much that he challenges you for a little 1 minute spar against him on the street. You lose and he tells you that next time don’t hold back otherwise you will lose in the early rounds.
After days of training and helping Britain you fight max and after defeating him Theodor appears who much to shock for Steve immediately challenges him and defeats Steve in a single attack with one of Theodor’s special combos and leaves the team on the floor telling Steve that I was the one who hospitalized John and that he hopes to meet you in the finals.
After fighting in 5 more different countries against 5 more tournament sand unlocking 5 more fighters (Emilio from Russia, Pablo from Mexico, Natalia from Sweden, Lucy from France, Cindy from Holland and Daniel from Germany) the team is notified that the finals will be in Desert Typhoon
and once you are back in Desert Typhoon the team finds out that the tournament is in 15 days however the infected people from the power plant has grown vastly and affected Steve’s son and there is a cure for the infection but will cost some materials scattered around the city and 30000 so they set out on finding the cure while training before he 10 days that his son has before he dies from the disease or it takes over him. (You must find the cure in time otherwise its game over and you have to restart from entering desert typhoon again) after finding the materials and money for the vaccine the doctors and scientists say that eh will be fine and that his recovery will be slow but there is no panics anymore about him collapsing or any bad side effects to the vaccine.
With 5 days left before the tournament the team helps the police with the infection issue and trains for the finals set and ready. After beating Theodor he tells you that it was not his fault why he ran over you and he tells the team that he was been controlled by a dream he had with a green flare and a Cyborg. Steve does not believe it so easily then has a flashback to when there was a green flare shooting upwards from the power plant and says so it was him that did this. Theodor collapses and lies on the ground due to the exhausting fight and tells steve after the fight if anyone can beat the Cyborg its your team and leaves them to continue the job as the doctors tells them that the recovery will take a while so its best your team prepares for the fight against the mysterious Cyborg.
After a whole day searching around the city you find a scientist that is able to tell you the Cyborgs name and tells you that the incident happened when he was been created and that the killer instinct of the Cyborg overloaded and took into its own desires rather than becoming a weapon used for peace and to control the minds of the other army and find peace it uses the mind control for its own purpose and wants to destroy civilisation and recreate it as its own. The scientist tells you that his name is Gamma-598 and that they are sorry for the trouble but can you stop the Cyborg before it is too late.
After 2 days of training the team and searching for clues about Gamma-598 after its sudden disappearance from the factory you see someone unknown on the television and the unknown person has hidden their identity but they say their name is Gamma-598 and that they have occupied the power plant responding to the reporters questions of asking why do you control the power plant it simply responds I need a challenge and no human is able to challenge me so the city and the civilisation will be infected within 12 days if he is not defeated with honour.
Knowing the new threat the entire team prepares for the unavoidable fight that must occur and after training they go to the power plant where Gamma-598 is created to challenge him to the final battle in the story. After beating the Gamma-598 he says thanks now i know humans can improve greatly if only there were more like you and then he explodes. if defeated by Gamma-598 he goes is that all you got very well then the world will perish and die for the new revelution of human beings and then the game over screen appears saying continue yes or no. when Gamma 598 is defeated the team is forced to rescue the survivors and leave the power plant and then the final cutscene shows and after the cutscene has been played it resumes at story saying that you can now complete the other games and you have unlocked survival tournaments.
Plot Devices
The plot devices i will be using are the ticking clock, the Mac guffin, inciting incident, climax and a conclusion within the game.

Plot Devices
The Inciting incident occurs after you save John and when Phil joins your team when the power plant starts a crisis and you are forced to save the power plant from destroying the entire city. This makes a big turn into the story and how the games story is introduced. This inciting incident helps create the mood from an average city into a new story with excitement. i used this device in order to give the player a shock and a new turn of events for them to uncover out of nowhere
With the mac guffin it is used within the first part of the game which is the money that is needed in order to pay for john’s hospital bills since he is in a critical condition while he is asleep. This is needed by the main character in the game mostly and it forces you to retrieve money via tournaments and helping the police. This makes the player meet new people and new enemies whilst they are retrieving the macguffin. Other macguffins would be the cool down switch for the power plant when the power plant goes in after switching on the cool down switch to prevent disaster or chaos. The Macguffin is used a few times in Intense Fighting Royale but the only major macguffin was the payment bills for johns hospital support. I used this device in order to give a reason to the player at why he does what he does in the game
The Ticking clock plot is used a lot in the story to Intense Fighting Royale and a example of this is the time limit you have in order to pay for johns bills as if they are not paid the game is over since john does not get better which ruins part of the story before it even happens and another ticking clock event that appears very soon within the game is the clock that appears when Phil John and Steve are sent to take over the power plant from the criminals because if they do not achieve it in time the power plant would explode killing them and the city. Using this plot helps the player understand that they need to hurry up otherwise a bad event that can end the game occurs.
The climax plot will be used as a part when the final boss and the final story fight against Gamma-598 appears and you defeat him. This is used to help give the player a sense of achievement and to also a sense of resolution to the game. The final resolution after the fighting with Gamma-598 is the helping of the injured which leads to a final ticking clock for the climax to take effect.

John is a police officer who had a horrific accident from his daily night duty on his police patrol and ever since he has been in hospital waiting to wake up to find out what happened to him. Always challenging Steve to find the better fighter with their winners been different each time john loves to fight Steve for that reason and gladly helps Steve on their travels. With the city becoming a new chaos johns dream is to end the chaos so he can live happily with his family and friends.

Theodor was a normal guy just like Steve infact they were best friends but on a day when the power plant had a issue something happened to Theodor and he lost his mind and has gone crazy ever since and his aim of the world now is to eradicate any weak person from existence and create a new world.

This oddly named creature is the main boss in intense fighting royal. He is a superhuman who was developed by the research lab. He was designed to be a army soldier to help defend the country against wars but he had a mix up of chemicals when he was been produced and now he has a killer instinct to anyone who tries to get in his way. He brainwashed Theodor in the story and has been mind controlling him ever since. He is created within the american powerplant and is sometimes seen throughout the story.
The Narrative flow
The Story itself is very linear however the story can be branched with certain choices in the story which can affect if the police will help you in missions or not and during these events it is your decision to help or not. During this narrative flow it can give you different choices on where to go but the overall ending is usually the same. doing this allows the story to be unharmed but allows the player to be given a choice to make different choices. as the picture shows it shows that there is possible choices throughout the game however the ending or sequel is always the same. This allows the player to get a different view each time.
Storyboards
With the story boards i will show examples of the story of the game using pictures for the characters and the game story however i am not great at drawing the character pictures but the story boards can be used by many other ways. This is used alot in story telling with many clear ideas of helping the team get to know what position they are at in the story also.

(final room in powerplant were crime boss is defeated) Scene 7: Steve John and Phil defeat the crime boss and aresst him but the countdown timer is still going and they find out tis not reversible but is limited so they set the limiter and prepare to leave.
(in the city looking at the powerplant meltdown after been restricted) Scene 8: Steve John and Phil look Back at the Powerplant and now agree it is safe to move and start the Intense Fighting Royale touranament.
(arrived in Spain) Scene 9: Steve Phil and john arrive in Spain and meet a new fighter angela who is waiting for them and give s them a traditional welcome to the touranment. Angela tells them to prepare for a good fight and then walks away.

He gives you a ticket and says meet you there.

(picture of Russia) Scene 16: the team is ready for the next fight in Russian and get introduced by the sponsors warning them that the fights are getting more serious now with time limits. The team get aware with this and prepare training together.

(Emilio upset about the defeat but Steve reassures him) Scene 18: Emilio is defeated and starts crying and wants to continue fighting to help his family and friends so Steve decides eh can help the team and the team can help u and your family. Emilio agrees to help the team and the team continues their training.
(Emilio excited on the plane on the way to mexico) Scene 19: Emilio is happy that they are travelling the world and chats with Angela about the team and what they do while Steve and john discus how big the gang has become and decides to make the team a new training grounds when they finally return home.

(picture of the team defeating Natalia's team) Scene 22: Natalia is impressed by the teams skills and wants to learn more about being a skilled fighter and this gives the team a idea as they agree to help since Pablo is too old for helping with the police jobs and Emilio too young Steve decides if she would not mind also helping with police work and she will be paid for the work too. Natalia agrees as she has always wanted to help the police and the team set off for France.

Steve tells her it could be dangerous but Natalia is not worried about it as long as she gets a good match and wants to be helpful and show her strength
(Lucy acknowledging defeat to Natalia) Scene 24: With Lucy defeated Natalia is welcomed into the group and is welcomed to stay withing the teams new house that will be under construction when they reach Desert Typhoon again. Lucy aware of this so called new group asks if they would like a new member. Steve impressed by her counteractive skills accepts her into the team as they need to refresh on counters as well as attacking. after the chat they all agree to go to the next tournament in Holland
(picture of Holland) Scene 25: The whole team decide to have a dinner together in a restaurant to help get the team to work better and doing this improve teamwork for the next tournament in Holland. Phil tells the group that it has improved a lot since he joined and is glad to meet so many other people.
(Cindy impressed by Steve's team) Scene 26: after Cindy's team is beaten Cindy asks the team if she can join to see how strong the team that has been rumored really is. Emilio is happy another member is added to the family and they prepare themselves for the semi finals in Germany.
(Max seeing a orphan on the ground) Scene 27: whilst in germany Max notices a orphan on the ground and asks the orphan and the orphan is homeless and decided to take him to meet the gang. Max arrives at the hotel with the orphan and john notices max and agrees that max can look after the orphan and take responsibility of her. John is shocked for max's scary look he is very caring and smiles.
(The team cheering as they have won the tournament in Germany and advance to the finals) Scene 28: Daniel is defeated and congratulates the team. he wishes the best for the final and joins the team but only to support them until the tournament is over then he will decide if he will help or not being a fighter he is. Much to Steve's shock he finds out that Desert Typhoon is the finals however it looks different due to the power plant incident so he asks for the teams help and decides to go back home as soon as possible.
(Steve shocked to see his son in hospital) Scene 29: Steve and the team are shocked to see his son in a hospital bed after been infected. the team ask while Steve is looking at his son and staying near him how they can cure the disease. the doctor said tis curable but needs very specific materials so the team go and search for them.
I used this plot to help give a finale to the game story and to help the player feel a sense of achievement with the resolution.
The conclusion of the game is the final cut scene where Steve and the rest of the team follow and make a understanding of what happened and the resolution between Steve and Theodor and the families that were affected by the disaster and the conclusion to all the characters that helped with the finale and the teaming with your side. This helps to give the player an understanding of the story and a possibility or not of a sequel to the game itself. The ending helps give a better idea for the game story also as a good ending is as good as a good beginning and vice versa with the bad beginning which can show that the game is worth playing or not. I used this plot device so that the player is left with the knowledge of what they wanted completed and also the thought of a possible new game of it or not within the conclusion.

This oddly named creature is the main boss in intense fighting royal. He is a superhuman who was developed by the research lab. He was designed to be a army soldier to help defend the country against wars but he had a mix up of chemicals when he was been produced and now he has a killer instinct to anyone who tries to get in his way. He brainwashed Theodor in the story and has been mind controlling him ever since. He is created within the american powerplant and is sometimes seen throughout the story.
The Narrative flow
The Story itself is very linear however the story can be branched with certain choices in the story which can affect if the police will help you in missions or not and during these events it is your decision to help or not. During this narrative flow it can give you different choices on where to go but the overall ending is usually the same. doing this allows the story to be unharmed but allows the player to be given a choice to make different choices. as the picture shows it shows that there is possible choices throughout the game however the ending or sequel is always the same. This allows the player to get a different view each time.Storyboards

(final room in powerplant were crime boss is defeated) Scene 7: Steve John and Phil defeat the crime boss and aresst him but the countdown timer is still going and they find out tis not reversible but is limited so they set the limiter and prepare to leave.
(in the city looking at the powerplant meltdown after been restricted) Scene 8: Steve John and Phil look Back at the Powerplant and now agree it is safe to move and start the Intense Fighting Royale touranament.
(arrived in Spain) Scene 9: Steve Phil and john arrive in Spain and meet a new fighter angela who is waiting for them and give s them a traditional welcome to the touranment. Angela tells them to prepare for a good fight and then walks away.
